According to the latest forecast by Strategy Analytics, the number of ‘metaverse’ devices is set to double in the next two years.
Installed base of virtual reality and augmented reality headsets is projected to increase from 50 million in 2022 to over 100 million in 2024.
Company further predicts that by 2027. The number of metaverse devices in use will reach nearly 250 million.
The future of metaverse devices
David MacQueen, executive director at Strategy Analytics, commented on the forecast, stating: “Increasing investments in this field, which offer new and captivating experiences to consumers. I will boost the adoption of dedicated devices for consumers to fully explore these new services.
Reaching an installed base of 100 million in 2024 will be a significant milestone for this relatively young category of consumer electronics, stimulating further growth and investment.”
He further added, “Thus far, the market has primarily consisted of VR headsets, with AR devices primarily focused on the enterprise market. However, we anticipate that AR headsets will drive future growth. It as more consumer-oriented devices enter the market. “
AR is projected to grow from just over 1% of metaverse device shipments in 2021 to capture a 64% shipment share of the metaverse devices market by 2027.”
