OTT TV and video revenues across 13 Latin American countries are projected to reach $2.91 billion in 2020, a substantial increase from $37 million in 2010 and the anticipated $1.13 billion in 2015, as outlined in a recent report by Digital TV Research.

SVOD will remain the dominant source of OTT revenue in the region

Within the $2,126 million revenue surge expected between 2014 and 2020, Brazil is set to make a significant contribution of $938 million, while Mexico is expected to add $437 million.

Simon Murray, Principal Analyst at Digital TV Research, emphasized that SVOD (Subscription Video on Demand) will remain the dominant source of OTT revenue in the region. Finally reaching $1,745 million by 2020, a substantial rise from virtually zero in 2010. Pan-regional services like Netflix, Clarovideo, and Movistar are playing a crucial role, injecting competitiveness into the SVOD sector.

The Americas OTT TV & Video Forecasts report anticipates a surge in SVOD homes to 24.05 million by 2020. A noteworthy increase from a mere 10,000 in 2010 and an expected 9.84 million by the end of 2015. Between 2014 and 2020, Brazil is projected to contribute 7.24 million new SVOD homes, with Mexico adding 3.32 million. Colombia is anticipated to surpass Argentina, claiming the third position in 2016.

By 2020, 15.9% of the region’s TV households are expected to subscribe to an SVOD package, up significantly from 4.8% at the end of 2014. Puerto Rico (22.5%) and Chile (20.0%) are forecasted to have the highest SVOD penetration rates by 2020.
