French pay-TV operator Canal+ was the star of parent company Vivendi during the quarter to March, contributing the largest share of the group’s revenue growth.



For the first quarter, Canal+ Group revenues were €1.478 million, up 2.2% on the same period last year, or 1.2% at constant currency.

Revenue from the television business in mainland France increased by 1.4% in constant currency compared to the first quarter of 2022, driven mainly by growth in subscription revenue.
Highlights of the quarter include the recent signing of a partnership with Apple that makes all Apple TV+ content available to all Canal+ subscribers in mainland France. New Canal+ subscribers will receive Apple TV+ as part of their offer.

In what is being described as a world first, all Apple TV+ content can be viewed directly on myCanal and Apple Original series, including The Morning Show, will be broadcast on Canal+ for the duration of the agreement. The offer will initially be available in France and Switzerland and will be extended to the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Vivendi’s overall revenues were €2.290, compared to €2.217 billion in the first quarter of 2022. This 3.3% increase was mainly due to the growth of the Canal+ group, up €32 million, together with the publishing house Havas, up 20 million euros and games company Gameloft, up 10 million euros.
